what happen to the newtab page
i have tried going to about:config - browser.newtab to set the new tab to open up about:newtab but whenever i restart firefox it doesnt work i have to manually type about:newtab to see my most visited sites.. it was working fine last night then this morning it doesnt. i havent installed anything new since it was working last night

Lets try a couple of things here:
First, update to Firefox 15.0.1 Update Firefox to the latest release
After than, run https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
Finally, if your new tab preferences are still not being saved, try to read How to fix preferences that won't save and Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
