New COX internet user with issue -- what is RFC 5746 and CVE 2009-3555?

My new Cox internet eMail home page has "transferring data from webtop.east.cox.net" on screen and it never goes away. Error console on Firefox shows repeated listing of "Webtop.east.cox.net --server does not support RFC 5746. See CVE 2009-3555". Are these related? How can I get "transferring" to stop? Issue does not exist if I use Safari. (I am on Macbook -- OS X 10.4.11). Firefox is v. 3.6.13.
