When i click search in the search engine nothing happens.
When I start up Firefox I get the normal search box on the start page, After I have typed in a searchword (ie: golfballs) & then click search nothing happens whatsoever, Ive tried numerous suggestions but with no success, If I click on 'open new tab' it then opens a different search engine & that works fine, So any ideas before I go mad please?!!!, oh & a word of warning im not a computer whizz so please make it idiot proof!!.

hello omegaman, please see if installing the search reset addon can resolve the issue: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ (a restart of the browser is necessary afterwards).
