msgfilter.dat file works mostly but seems corrupt - can it be reset or something else
Hi, Hopefully this is Bugzilla. I've an issue and not sure if it's a bug or what. Been using these filters for years. Tried most "tricks". (rebooted, etc)
Not sure how to handle this.
Can anyone help? What do you need from me? Thanks

Please clarify what your issue is with filters.
David. I went from Laptop A to B. Copied all the profile files (C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles).
I tried to Sort my Inbox and some or all Rules were missing. Did I copy the wrong files?
Thanks
If you did a proper copy, everything will be there. Here are recommended steps: Here is the link for moving a profile in Windows when installed in default location:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer
here is the info in brief steps:
- ensure thunderbird is NOT running on old machine <== IMPORTANT
- enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
- this should open windows file explorer in Appdata\roaming folder
- highlight the Thunderbird folder and copy to external media
- ensure thunderbird is installed on second computer and NOT running
- enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
- you should be in Appdata\roaming folder , copy&paste the exported Thunderbird folder there. This may prompt to overwrite an existing folder of same name. allow it
- start thunderbird and all should be there
Dabid, Thanks for clearing that up. Seems I only copied a part of the folder. I originally copied C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles folder. I should have copied C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder. BIG difference. Thanks!
You are quite welcome. :)

given Thunderbird stores it's profile folder information Profiles.ini in %appdata%\Thunderbird always start your copy there if you intend to use your old profile.
Personally I recommend going to the troubleshooting information on the help menu and using the button there to show the profile folder in a file manager and copying the content of that folder and any sub folders.
Then on the new device repeat the show profile process, close Thunderbird and paste the copied folder contents and sub folders into that folder replacing what is already there. This bypasses the profile per install and other checks that make using an old profile difficult. Once the content is replaced starting Thunderbird should offer exactly the same as what was on the other machine. It does blow away anything in the profile on the new machine, but often as not that is some mess of things that are not quite working right anyway.
