Firefox updated and I lost all of my bookmarks and cannot bookmark anything new, what can I do to fix this?
Overnight my computer updated and when I went to go online this afternoon all of my Firefox bookmarks were gone. I have tried everything in the help articles to get them back and nothing. I tried to import them from Chrome and again, nothing. I tried to add new bookmark and nothing happened. What is strange if I go to my email or Facebook, my login information is already there. It is like the whole Firefox browser is broke. I have the backup bookmarks file on my desktop but it will not go into the library. What do i do now?

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore bookmark from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

Sorry, loss of the user's bookmarks isn't intended with the update to Firefox 57.
Give this a try: Open up Help (hit the ALT key to reveal the Menu Bar temporarily) and then open Troubleshooting Information.
Then scroll down all the way to Bookmarks Database and use the Verify Integrity button.
Once the Integrity data appears, close Firefox.
Then start Firefox and see if your Bookmarks appear in the Bookmarks Sidebar, which can be opened via { Ctrl + B } from the keyboard.
Report back in this thread.
Thanks but that didn't work. The strange thing is the browser will not bookmark anything new now either.
