I used "recently Bookmarked" frequently, now it's light gray and I can no longer use it.

Recently Bookmarked was changed in Firefox 49. It used to be a 'smart folder' [colored blue with a magnifying glass icon] with up to 10 bookmarks, where now it's a 'faint text heading' [not a folder] followed by the 5 most recently saved bookmarks. As long as browsing history is being saved it should work similar to how it worked before.
