When I installed update 29, the way the tool bars are displayed changed. I have a drop down tab that has the search window and several other buttons on it. I would like to change that to a regular tool bar that is visible all the time like they were in previous versions.

Hi,
In Firefox 29 you can add things to the toolbar so that they are visible all the time. Instructions are here - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If you want things to work more like they did in Firefox 28, you'll need an add-on to do that. How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox has instructions for that.
