I use Thunderbird client on both my PC (Windows 11 64-bit) and have Thunderbird 128.4.3 esr (64-bit) installed. I have a number of GMail accounts, one of which is a former TELUS email account which was transferred to a corporate GMail account several years ago. When the account was first transferred I was able to add it to the Thunderbird client on both my PC and my MacBook Pro with no difficulty. It continues to easily added and to work on the TB client on my MacBook Pro but I have been unable to add it to the more recent versions of Thunderbird on my PC using exactly the same settings. I have tried allowing TB to fill in the settings and to do a manual install. In both cases the error message is the same ... that either the account name or password is incorrect, neither of which is the case, since I have tried numerous times. Am I missing something such as an extra step that now needs to be done on the PC version that doesn’t on the Mac version? Could there a reason the TELUS/GMail account in question could be added on older versions of Thunderbird but not on more recent versions? Regular GMail accounts can be added with no difficulty. Thanks for any assistance you may provide. For the moment I have set my GMail account for the TELUS email to be forwarded to one of my regular GMail accounts (which add with no difficulty) on Thunderbird on my PC so I am able to receive the mail but I’m sure there must be a way to have the TB client be able to add the TELUS/GMail account directly.

I, and similar to other friends I have introduced to Thunderbird, are long time users of this exccellent email app. As a resut, we have tried multiple times to donate to yourselves as we value the service you provide, but are unable to do so due to the additional, you might call them security checks, but we call them hassle when they fail to work due to either some bug OR missing database information. What we find is that your address check / verification is incorrect as it may be locked to an incorrect Eircode database (in the case of Ireland). As a result, it does not allow us Irish to donate to you or your service.

I was having trouble adding my NYU email account to Thunderbird and browsing the forums I found this post with my exact same issue.

I just wanted to open a thread because I found a solution to my problem by following one the comments in the original post.

The configuration you should use to configure the account should be as follows (as of Nov. 2024),

Incoming server: imap.gmail.com on port 993 with SSL/TLS using OAuth2 Incoming server username: your NetID without the trailing "@nyu.edu".

Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com on port 465 with SSL/TLS using OAuth2 Outcoming server username: your NetID (as before)

Once you input this configuration you will be asked to log-in through Google, and from there on everything should work as intended.

Hope this wil be useful to someone.

Hello,

Getting the settings of my accounts exported to my mobile devices is nowadays as simple as scanning a QR code. I have a desktop which has only one of my accounts configured My question: In theory, it should be also possible to create in the mobile app a QR code to export the settings of my accounts to my desktop app.

Are there any plans to do as well as accept the setting file of the mobile app in the desktop app?

Thank you!

I followed Mozilla's official instructions for transferring and Thunderbird profile to a new device (running Fedora 40 and Thunderbird version 115). Thunderbird seemed to read my profiles folder correctly, as all my accounts and RSS feeds were present after I copied the old profile to folder to my new .thunderbird directory. However, after downloading the header files for the emails I have received since switching computers, it then tries to download all 60,000 emails or so on my gmail account even though most of these emails should be included in the profile folder already - it looks like have 6 GB INBOX file within this profile.

Is there a way to get thunderbird to read the profile without redownloading all the messages from my accounts? I unfortunately no longer have access to my old windows machine that this profile is from, just the profile folder itself. Let me know if there is anything I can do!

In late September, IONOS canceled me--they blamed their new algorithm. They also deleted or uninstalled my Thunderbird at the same time--they deny doing it. I reinstalled T-bird and downloaded my current inbox from webmail, but 25+ years of work and personal email files saved in Local Folders were missing, along with my address book. Carbonite recovered >130GB of T-bird files that I think and hope are my saved files and put them in one big folder on my desk top--hours later, Hurricane Helene hit. I have my replacement computer now and a recovery drive from Carbonite with>450G of my data on it, including my earlier recovered Thunderbird files.

Question: how do I get those files and address book back into my Thunderbird? This is critical for me. I'm a writer, and all my professional communications are in them, along with all my volunteer work and personal messages--more than 25 years' worth! Between the hurricane and this, I've lost more than a month of work already as well as contacts, medical records, etc..

I have several accounts.

One of the accounts never shows that it has unread messages. If I go into it - I see new messages just fine, but they are marked as "read". If I go to that account through web - I see the new messages as "unread", as they should be.

This happens on only one of the accounts. All others correctly show, in the list of accounts, that I have unread messages. Do not see any difference between account settings.

The offending account is from gmail, but I also have another gmail one which works correctly.

Any suggestions where to look?

Thunderbird version is: 115.16.2 (64-bit)

I have 3 accounts with Gmail They are/ were all the same setup and everything was fine for years and now they are starting to not work properly. The sent mail folder doesn't work on one and it can't be deleted like the other 2. Delete and reinstall fixed it on one. And now the accounts functions are being merged. I deleted the sent mail on one and it deleted another one as well. The "fix" on the box for sent doesn't do anything. One account was getting mail in the inbox and sent mail box, the same message. And one account stopped sending mail but was receiving ok and I kept getting error messages that it was a bad address from Google. I've been playing with it for hours and finally got it sending and receiving to the right accounts I think. It's still set up per your directions for gmail. And I've rebooted TB and the computer a half a dozen times. Oh and TB also crashed once and sent the report. I hope you can figure this out because something is obviously corrupted. Thanks.
