Aha! That actually explains what's happening. Your Firefox can't connect to mozilla.org, the website it gets updates from. Could you please copy the link from your last screenshot and try to open it in a different browser (e.g. preinstalled Edge). Is it accessible that way? You can also try just https://www.mozilla.org/

OK. But I do not get it!

I've used Firefox for years, and both manual and automatic update functions have worked with no problem.

But now, for no apparent reason, there's a problem and it can't connect with Mozilla?

Even Opera browser rejects https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-stub&os=win&lang=en-US

I don't know what you mean about "Edge".

Went to download "Firefox" from mozilla.org and here's what I got:

If Opera also can't open the link (which is valid), then it should be your network problem rather than Firefox, meaning something on your computer / your provider / your organization blocks mozilla.org. Check out Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

Paul - Thank you for "joining the muddle . . . ". From the article you suggested:

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS 1. Updating your antivirus security software or modifying its settings can resolve issues caused by software products that scan encrypted connections. On Windows, you can uninstall your third-party software and use the built-in Windows Security with Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

   -  The only security software I can determine is the default Windows Security; no third-party software that I'm aware of; haven't been able to figure out how to find out if there is such hiding somewhere in the system.

2. An incorrect system clock can cause Firefox to detect that the website's security certificate is expired or invalid. Make sure your computer is set to the correct date, time and time zone. See Troubleshoot time-related errors on secure websites.

   -  Clock and calendar are fine

3. Check if the website is down. If a website doesn't load in Firefox, it might be a problem on the site's end.

   -  The website is mozilla.org; highly unlikely that it would be "down" for several days, methinks . . . ?

4. Try opening the same site in another browser. If it doesn’t load there either, the website is likely experiencing issues.

   -  As noted previously, I did attempt downloading via Opera but the same SECURE CONNECTION FAIL showed up there.

5. Clear cached certificates in Firefox. If Firefox has saved an outdated or untrusted certificate, removing it may fix the error. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings. Go to the Privacy & Security panel, go down to the Certificates section, click View Certificates…, select any untrusted or outdated site certificates, and click Delete or distrust…

   -  Opened SETTINGS, opened PRIVACY & SECURITY; opened VIEW CERTIFICATES; haven't the slightest clue about which may or may not be an "outdated or untrusted certificate"; my predilection is to simply delete them all and let the system reestablish new ones as I go along from this point; any problem(s) that may cause?
