on july 24, Firefox Mozilla did an auto upgrade, on this windows 8 workstation. Thereafter, I noticed that, while I can access my email normally, the new email, or double clicking on the emails in line, opens normally then immediately reduces to same width but only 2 inches tall. Can expand window, it expands then immediately shrinks.

Ah, this used to happen when I had a particular add on installed, however it does not look like you have this add on. Please try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if there is an add on that is affecting this functionality Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox
