Bittorrent and Utorrent act like they're downloading, but then the program does nothing when I try to install or open it.

more options

I have been trying to download the programs. It seems like they are downloading, but the installation won't run whenever I try to open it afterwards. This is both utorrent and bittorrent, haven't tried any others. I read on one q & a to move mimeTypes.rdf and did that and restarted Firefox and redownloaded the program, still nothing.

Chosen solution

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. A list of settings should appear
  3. Filter the list by typing in the search bar at the top. Type in scanWhenDone. You should now find the "browser.download.scanWhenDone" preference.
  4. Double-click on that preference to set the value to false.

Please reply and tell us whether this helped you!

Note that you may want to turn that back on since setting to false turns AV downloading scanning off.
