Since changing my homepage from iGoogle I cannot get the full YouTube with videos and choices alongside. What to do?

I had a freeze earlier today requiring a System Restore to a couple of days previous which solved it.. However I found I could no longer access my personalised iGoogle home page and therefore decided to install a `igHome home page' containing much the same details. Some time later I went to watch a film video I had been watching on YouTube website and bookmarked but discovered my Google YouTube account was closed. I therefore opened a new account with Google enabling me to access YouTube but only in a very piece-meal way: I could request a video but the previous format with a list of choices opposite the video playing window was no longer there. I find the present format far less satisfactory because I don't necessarily know what I want to watch until I consult the available list to choose from: I've tried to work out how to return to the original format but there's no guidance available to assist me. I'd be most grateful for any assistance to solve this problem.

Hi parsee, if your cleanup software is removing your Firefox cookies, please see whether you can make an exception. Otherwise, you will keep getting logged out of websites you want to stay logged in to.

First, iGoogle should still be working for a few months at https://www.google.com/ig until they turn it off.

Second, I don't understand why your Google account or your YouTube account would be closed. Is it possible that the site you signed up with extracted data in a way that Google thought was suspicious??

Third, regarding the problems with the YouTube display layout, does that occur in Internet Explorer (or other browsers) as well? It might be a YouTube preference.

More generally, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Very many thanks jscher2000 for your very helpful and informative advice. A curious thing however happened just before receiving it. I discovered on opening my computer that even the personalised details on my replacement -for the missing iGoogle home page- igHome home page had now disappeared. I recalled last thing before closing my computer last night I'd carried out a scan with my SpeedMaxPc and began to realise that this scanner may be the cause of these problems in a desire to speed the computer it was disconnecting vital links to extraneous sites: since getting and operating the scanner I've almost invariably had to keep re-signing back into websites I am frequently in the habit of using. Now I'd lost the connection with my new igHome home page I decided to again reconstruct my previous iGoogle website -as you say they are not discontinuing it until November- and began that process when I was informed I already had an existing homepage and to sign in to get it back and lo when I signed in -despite having done this several times the day before without joy- there was my customary personalised iGoogle home page: having successfully retrieved it I then linked to YouTube and astonishingly there it was in all it's previous complete glory. Don't ask me to explain any of this beyond the obvious conclusion that YouTube evidently only operated fully for me when linked from my iGoogle homepage but not from the igHome home page. I suspect you'll better understand this technical intricacy than a novice like me. As to what to do about my SpeedMaxPc which -apart apparently from severing essential connections with extraneous sites- appears to offer an excellent service in speeding up my computer's performance during not infrequent slow-downs and freezes? I'll need to ponder at some length whether it does more harm than good. Again many thanks for your assistance which I've little doubt would have met with the same success.

Yes you're right I'll take it up with the software creator and see how to avoid this in future - alternatively I'll have to delete it. Again many thanks
