Chosen solution

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true.

Does the Octicon (icon) font work on this web page?

I have been having issues with Mozilla 22 since the upgrade. I am having pages display like the one in my image. I am not sure if the add-ons are affecting it or not, in any case, the site will view like this even in safe mode. I have done five “clean” reinstalls and each time, after a few hours, the browser starts displaying certain “images” or “functions” my site like this. I am at a complete loss and have had three techs tell me the issue is with the browser and not the site. I have no way of being sure except to say that the site views fine in Chrome and IE and I am this close to abandoning Mozilla entirely.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Based on your screenshot (thank you!) there is a problem with certain fonts used to display icons. The 2 pairs of 2 digits in a box identify the character number Firefox can't display.

Do you notice any problem with other downloadable fonts? You can experiment with this page: http://www.google.com/fonts/

In past threads, other users have reported problems with the FontAwesome-webfont font for various reasons. I'm not sure a definitive problem was identified.

Thank you, but that was the first thing I tried.

Thank you, at least now I know what I’m looking at. I can’t say that I’ve had this problem before with Mozilla; it only started occurring after the upgrade to 22. Granted, the error is persistently annoying on my own WP blog, but I have seen it on a couple of other web pages since the upgrade.

I believe I already read the post in your first bullet. I have gone through all the normally suggested steps. In fact, I have gone so far as to remove registry keys before reinstalling the browser.

The only modification that I do is put the tabs back on top. I also normally run Ad Block plus, in fact I almost refuse to surf without it. I also use Stylish, but only apply it to Google and a couple of other sites like Youtube because white backgrounds hurt my eyes.

Nevertheless, I have tried resetting the browser, I have disabled extensions, even viewed pages in safe mode, but the characters still render incorrectly.

Mozilla has worked fine for me for years, and then suddenly after this last upgrade I started having these problems. My isp will tell me it is the website. My personal techs will tell me it’s the browser.

I suspect the browser because my site looks fine after a fresh reinstall. However, by the end of the day it’s rendering the characters incorrectly. I clean everything out, disable everything, but won’t render the characters correctly again unless I reinstall. I feel that something is irreparably corrupting the browser, or it is simply unstable.

Is there a tweak I can do to get it to render these characters correctly that will stay?

In a manner of speaking. Please see my reply to scher2000

I should tell you, that I followed your link and did create a new profile. In fact I’m using it right now. That is, I am using the browser with no extensions or modifications. However, the icons are still displaying incorrectly.

This only time it displays correctly, is if I do a clean reinstall. However, after starting the browser up a few times, it starts displaying the icons incorrectly again.

What happens is, though, I begin to feel comfortable with it and add my extensions: Ad Block Plus & Stylish. I’m not sure if they are causing the error or not except that after it happens, I can go into safe mode, even reset the browser, and it will still display incorrectly.

Admittedly, the only thing I haven’t done is simply not add the extensions and see if it will error out or not. I don’t know why putting my tabs back on the bottom would affect the display. Stylish may be questionable, but I don’t necessarily feel very secure flying around the net without at least the Ad Block.

Thank you.

The gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled was set to false and by changing the value to true did the trick.

Interesting. Now I’m wondering what tripped it out and if it will become a habit. I hope not; I’m visually handicapped and Mozilla really is the best browser for me to be using.

Thank you very much.

I have to tell you Corel. I'm thinking my gfx.downloadable_fonts is unstable, or sensitive.. I have had to reset the value a couple of times since you first told me about it.
