Sometimes I click something and the link opens to a completely different page advertising something. If I click the back arrow and click it again, it opens with the correct link.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

You can open the about:config page and search for prefs that are referring to this website and reset those prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Just a note that Firefox from mozilla.org does not come with any form of advertisements.

I wonder if this may be due to one of the Extensions you have installed in Firefox.

I did the reset that Tylerdowner wrote to do. I think it worked. So far so good. I'll post again if happens again. Thanks everyone !
