Warning About Losing Tab Groups When Erasing History?

I realized today that my tab groups were all gone and I believe it is because I erased all of my search history about a week ago. Unfortunately I did not realize that clearing my search history would irrecoverably delete my tab groups, and I think it would not be intuitive for many other people either.

Ideally I would like to see a specific option to keep or erase tab groups when clearing search history but in the absence of that I think at least having a warning that you will lose your tab groups if you follow through would be very nice.

Hi cblossom4459,

What you’re seeing makes sense, even if it’s not obvious at first. In Firefox, tab groups are linked to session and browsing data, so when you cleared your browsing history, that process likely removed the data that was keeping your tab groups intact.

There currently isn’t a separate option to preserve tab groups when clearing history, and I agree that this isn’t very intuitive. A warning message or a dedicated option to keep tab groups would definitely make this clearer and help prevent accidental loss.

Thanks for the feedback—this is exactly the kind of UX detail that can easily catch users by surprise.
