When I occasionally use Google Chrome, it keeps switching me over to them as my default browser without my permission?! Can this be stopped?

If I occasionally use Google Chrome, it keeps aggressively switching me over to them as my default browser without my permission?! How can this be stopped? (I use FF 99% of the time, but also use another browser when following airline flight ticket prices, as they track you and raise the cost lf they see you checking back in on the same browser).
