I think it's been like this for a year or more now... dark theme in Windows 10 yields dark background in a Thunderbird, as it should, but Thunderbird never switches the text to white, like all other software does.

Seriously tired of this.

have you tried setting the dark theme in Thunderbird?

Yes and it made no difference.

It's HTML mail especially it has issues with in the replies.

Themes have undergone lots of change in the last year, which has caused some instability. But it is currently getting a big look. Some of the fixes will still come in the newer version 91 in September.

re : dark background in a Thunderbird, as it should, but Thunderbird never switches the text to white,

This problem occurs because the sender of the email does not state the background colour in the html code, but they do set the colour of the font. Usually the sender set the colour as black or very dark and never bothered to set background because they expected you to be using a pale/white background.

So with those specific emails, you end up with black font on black background. - Not helpful.

In order to advise you on what settings are best to use, I need to know what settings you are currently using in this area: Menu app icon >Options/Preferences > General Under 'Language & Appearance' section - click on 'Colours' What colour is set for Text ? What colour is set for Background ? Have you selected the 'Use system colours' checkbox ? What have you selected for the 'Override the colours specified by the content with my selections above' - did you select 'Never' or 'Always' or 'Only with high contrast themes' ? The best answer would be to post an image showing what you have got set up.
