What are NSEML?

more options

Ok, so i do not use software to clear out useless files from the harddrive, though i use to. So every now and then, i go through all the temp folders and clear them out manually

Recently, I found a slew of TB files in a temp folder that begin with NSEML and are then sequentially numbered.

Since they are not in the "inbox", i am not sure if they are safe to delete. There would be nothing worst than to delete any of these only to find that maybe they are linked to emails in the inbox.

So in order to be sure if wiping them off the drive is safe, can someone explain the purpose of NSEML in TB?

Might them be just copies created during transfer from GMAIL before adding them to th e inbox?

Or is it that perhaps TB is experiencing occasional issues and then relying on the Temp folder to store emails and attachments?

Thanks!

re : nsmail.eml, nsmail.tmp, nsmail.html files

These are temporary files created in MozillaMailnews when sending a message. If you get an error message about being unable to open the temp file 'nsmail.tmp' when sending a message try re-configuring your anti-virus program not to scan email messages.

It is normal to see them, but they should get deleted when you exit Thunderbird. Suggest you exit thunderbird and see if they get removed.

Note: I have found a bug report about this, but in this case the files are not being deleted upon exiting Thunderbird.

So, if they remain after you exit Thunderbird then it is ok to delete them.
