When Thunderbird used POP email it was very simple, but now with the newer IMAP type mail, things have changed. I now find all my mail on the Yahoo server and if I want to see a past sent message, I have to download it. I changed all my settings to synchronize both my mail boxes and the Yahoo corresponding mail box. How do I synchronize all the past older messages? Thanks, Bruce

Chosen solution

Thunderbird still uses POP, nothing has changed. Where you choose to use POP or IMAP is down to whether the provider of email offers the option.

IMAP works entirely differently as you see a remote view of the contents of the server folders.

re : How do I synchronize all the past older messages? If you logon to webmail account, do you see all the older messages? Confirm you can see them and state what folders they are in.

In thunderbird, have you subscribed to see the folder(s) that the server says contains the older messages? If no, then subscribe to see them.

re;I changed all my settings to synchronize both my mail boxes and the Yahoo corresponding mail box.

Right click on imap mail account in Folder pane and select 'SEttings' select 'Synchronisation & Storage' for imap account. 'Message Synchronising' select 'Keep Messages for this account on this computer' click on 'Advanced..' button Do you see a list of all subscribed folders? Are all the folders selected to download? Make sure all are selected and click on Ok

Under 'Disc Space' section: select: 'Synchronise all messages locally regardless of age' select : 'Don't delete any messages'

You need these settings in all imap mail accounts. then click on OK

Conform all Account Settings are as described.
