When creating a message I want to remove one address from a mailing list without amending the stored list.
I have received a message from 'A' = I want to forward to Mailing list 'X' but that includes 'A'. Is the only way to remove 'A' from list 'X' , send message and then re- enter 'A' to list 'X' after message sent.

If you have an older version of TB, the menu item is Properties instead of Edit List; see the picture from TB 52.2.1. The point is that you just have to click OK when the Properties/Edit List window appears - do not actually edit the list - to make the list entries appear in the sidebar. Then, choose the contacts you want to send to by holding Ctrl or Shift while you select contacts, then an Add to button. Or, Ctrl+A to select all of them, then hold Ctrl and click the ones you want to exclude.
This method does not require any add-on, and I do not have the 'Expand mailing list recipients' add-on installed.

I need a bit of hand holding here. I will enter that tag line in Firefox and I assume I am offered some software and the option to install. If correct so far what will I see different in Thunderbird. My apologies for being thick !!

Add ons are software that different people create to customize Thunderbird. If they are listed on the Thunderbird page they have been reviewed and approved for use. Click on the link I provided. Click Download button. A dialog box will open with instructions for installation. FYI: The button referred to in the instructions beside the Search box looks like a gear. After the file downloads follow the instructions to install. Then you will have the above mentioned Edit button.

That choice was not there until I installed the quoted add on. The weird part is even though I removed the add on the choice remains. ???
