Firefox crashes upon startup

more options

My browser used to work fine but it now always crashes on startup. It has crashed when I try to go into safe mode. I have uninstalled Firefox and have done a clean reinstall but it has not fixed the problem. I uninstalled Firefox, removed the remaining files in the Program Files and Documents and Settings\username\Application Data folders to ensure a completely clean reinstall, reinstalled Firefox and I still crash. I think that the problem may lie in my operating system.

I am one of the few that still uses Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack III. I use a Compaq Presario computer with an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+, 2.19 GHz. I submitted a report and this is the report: Crash ID: bp-d1fac27a-df30-494c-a889-9acd22160913

hi StevenMartin, thanks for providing a crash report id. we have seen quite a number of similar reports about this issue in the last hours and this issue is likely caused by your symantec security software that is hooking into firefox (probably through a program/signature update done by them). other users reported that updating firefox in this situation helped with the crashes. you can download & install the latest firefox from https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-48.0.2-sha1&os=win&lang=en-US
