Where are old emails. I am shown one page of emails about 150 in the Inbox. More than this number they disappear. When I want to find an old email it is not there. How are they archived?

So that tells us that any deletions are being undertaken on the server or in another app, say on a phone. They often cause some issues as they have extremely limited storage space and setting there can have unintended consequences in other synchronized applications like Thunderbird

I seriously doubt there is any archival process occurring. More like your account is limited to 150 mails..

Right click the account in the folder pane. Select settings

In synchronization and Storage. (IMAP MAIL) Or Disk Space (POP MAIL)

what retention settings do you have set?

Is the account IMAP or POP? Do you get mail on another device like a phone or tablet? What mail provider?

Hi Matt

First of all thanks for trying to help. I right clicked on the account in the folder pane. Then clicked Settings, then Synchronization and Storeage.

I right clicked on the pane showing the Inbox, Drafts, Sent etc and then clicked properties. A Folder Properties menu popped up. Under Retention Policy "use my account setting" was highlighted. I changed this to "Don't delete any messages". This may have done the trick. I will know in a day to two when more emails flow in.

Thanks for the help and I will report back if this was the solution. I hope it is.

Regards

John

I said settings... not properties. My guess is you have changed very little in reality.

I find that a very strange response. If Thunderbird respecting the IMAP standard makes it unsuitable for you, then ALL email client programs will also be unsuitable to you. All web mail may also be unsuitable, especially if the issue is coming from your phone.

Hi Matt You are dealing with someone who isn't too switched on to computer tech. I have used a Mac with Mail for most of my life and all emails were preserved so I could alwyas go back threw the years to double check on something. After the harddrive died on my Mac laptop I began using my PC video editing computer and installed Thunderbird for my email.

Our phones are not connected with the computer at all so there is another issue. Is there another setting I am missing?
