How can I get mp4 videos to play?
I currently have Firefox 44.0.2 on Windows 7 (x86) and I cannot get any mp4 videos to play. I know this is a common problem, but none of the fixes help: 'media.windows-media-foundation.enabled' is not listed at all on my about:config page, adding 'twimg.com/*' and 'amp.twimg.com/*' to FlashBlock's whitelist doesn't help either. It worked for my laptop that's running WIndows 10, but not my desktop.
I tried installing Quicktime, but it didn't work, either. The H264 video codec by Cisco is installed, set to always activate, and seems like it's working, so I have no idea if that's causing any problems. I tried downloading the media package mentioned in other answers, but it just told me that it didn't apply to my computer.
Twitter videos just tell me 'this browser does not support video playback' and whenever I try to load other mp4 vidoes directly, I just get what's in the attached image. It never loads, just that blank screen.
I'm getting frustrated that nothing seems to work. Is it honestly too much to ask for? If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be thankful. I'm tired of having to switch to Chrome for some things.
Chosen solution
I'm an idiot. It was my FlashBlock add-on, for some reason it was blocking HTML5 video. I had unchecked that before, but apparently it rechecked itself at some point (maybe during an update?) and that was the problem.
Well, at least I have an account now.
