New emails don't show in bold type

I note a number of others have this problem w/o a solution. My in box emails are only momentarily in bold type when I open my emails, and then they all instantly go to regular type. I've tried the solutions suggested w/o result I have version 38.5.1

Have you tried the solution of turning off your phone so the mail is not downloaded there to see if new mail gets marked unread. It is the usual cause of mail read issues these days.
