Thunderbird no longer attaches selected image to email. Attaches whole file

After selecting 'attach image' while writing email and selecting a single image, Thunderbird inserts every image file contained in 'my pictures'. This has only started happening in the last two weeks. Previously once I selected a single image Thunderbird would attach this image only. Has something changed in Thunderbird? Can someone please assist?
