I think it depends on ZTE, because they control the official updates for the phone. I don't know what official updates are planned - I think some unofficial updates are available on the internet.

You're right, it is always a risk. Mozilla can't update your phone, so your best bet is to keep in touch with ZTE. Maybe they'll update it if they know demand exists, though I wouldn't hope too much :(

With the Open C it's the only way to haave recent updates since ZTE won't work with it anymore. The mozfr community has done a really big and good job to do frequents updates with neta, aurora and nightly channel for firefoz os. Take a look searching "build firefoxos mozfr" on your favorite search engine (I'm using open C eu with these packages since a year now. And even if it is not working all the time, you always have a solution, you can try the irc for help)
