Firefox V34.0

I frequently change search engines as I'm sure many people do.

1. The down arrow element of the UI is missing.

2. I can't change search provider BEFORE searching.

3. If the information I am typing is being sent to the wrong people then THIS IS A MASSIVE PRIVACY AND SECURITY RISK - the information I am typing is to go to the search engine I intend to use and not the other search engines.

.

. Just in case you missed that I said THIS IS A MASSIVE PRIVACY AND SECURITY RISK.

The search box must be restored to it's former functionality.

Oh FFS, now I'm ending up at completely the wrong page because the default search provider favicon is no longer being shown.

You would have to left-click the search engine icon and open "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences to set the default search provider. You can start typing search terms to open the drop-down list with the installed search engine and select the one that you want to use.

If you want to restore the previously used standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the about:config page.

  • about:config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false

You need to close and restart Firefox to make this work properly.

There's a new Search Bar in Firefox 34 which is completely different than in previous versions of Firefox.

See this - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-bar-add-change-manage-search-engines-firefox - while using Firefox 34.
