How can I set new tabs to open google.com not mysearch.avg.com

When I open a new page I get google.com as it should be. When I open a new tab mysearch.avg.com comes up. How do I get google.com to come up in a new tab? I tried going to uninstall or change a program and I try removing avg SafeGuard toolbar. I get a message it cannot remove it now to try later. Any help would be appreciated. I am using windows 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chosen solution

This is because your default homepage is set to mysearch.avg.com

you can change through options -> www.google.com

and it will open google.com on new tabs every time

  1. Go to about:config page.
  2. Search for browser.newtab.url change its value to:
    • about:newtab – default.
    • about:blank – blank page.
    • URL – an url of one page that you want.

To remove AVG Security SafeGuard Toolbar:

When I try to remove avg SafeGuard tool bar I get a message say it was not removed and to try again later.

Hi nutmonger, you wrote:

I don't think I've seen that one before. Could it be because some other AVG software is protecting it? Or because you need to close all your browsers before you can uninstall?
