The only clickable item there is "check for updates." My add-ons are all working, but none show up. Same for Extensions, Appearance, Plugins, Services.

I don't know how long it's been this way, because I've had no need to check until last Friday, when I picked up some malware that slides open a tab from the right-hand side of my screen with "Hot Deals" on it.

Firefox's "Automatically add" option tells me that listed below are my add-ons (though I can't see them in my own Add-ons tab). There are several there I don't recognize at all, but I have no idea how I can remove them without that page properly loading.

Using Firefox 25.0.1 with Windows 7

  • Google Update
  • Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
  • The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in Web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site.
  • iTunes Detector Plug-in
  • 5.1.30214.0
  • Picasa plugin
  • NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy
  • Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
  • GEPlugin
  • RealPlayer(tm) LiveConnect-Enabled Plug-In
  • RealPlayer Download Plugin
  • RealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader Chrome Background Extension Plug-In
  • RealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader PepperFlashVideoShim Plug-In
  • RealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader HTML5VideoShim Plug-In
  • RealDownloader Plugin
  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.5.5"
  • Nitro PDF plugin for Firefox and Chrome
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision plugin for Mozilla browsers
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision Streaming plugin for Mozilla browsers
  • Amazon MP3 Downloader Plugin 1.0.17
  • WildTangent Games App V2 Presence Detector
  • Logitech Device Detection
  • RealNetworks(tm) RealPlayer Chrome Background Extension Plug-In
  • RealPlayer(tm) HTML5VideoShim Plug-In
  • NPWLPG

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
  • Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.

That looks like a list of plugins. Your "More System Details" shows your currently installed extensions.

In case one of your extensions is modifying the page, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

In safe mode it doesn't happen.

...Now how do I re-enable all my add-ons?  ;)

Thank you!

Thanks so much... I was curious, before I read your reply, so I re-enabled selectively, leaving out a photobucket uploader add-on; i-beta 0.1.7 -- which I don't believe I ever added, though it sounded benign enough when I read about it; and some TwitPix add-on I never used (and probably won't).

Problem *seems* to be gone. But if it comes back, I'll certainly enable them your very wise way.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your patience. And I'm usually smarter than this...  ;)
