Hide message pane does not work in search results window

When I search for a term and then select "view all messages on the rsults page a new window opens with the message list and a message pane. I try to hide the message pane either with the sshortcut key or through the menu but nothing happens e.g. it is not hidden.

I must hide it because I am using a screen reader. The way Thunderbird is set up each time I move to a new message I only here the warning about remote content and I cannot hear any details about the message.

I think you need to tell us which search you're using.

The traditional search, ctrl+shift+f doesn't have a message preview. I suspect you're using the Global Search.

If I use global search then "open email as list" I do get a window which summarizes the messages that have been been found, and a message viewer pane below. Whilst I can't see any way to suppress the lower pane, I find it can be resized and if made smaller enough, it disappears. But to do this size adjustment you need to use the mouse, and on top of that, I don't know if the adjustment would be persistent. I know I have added columns to the upper pane and they do not stick from one session to another. :-(

Hello, thanks for your reply. It is the global search. I did try minimizing the window but the screen reader still knows it is open and thus reads the message pane automatically even if it is not visible.

This is a longstanding problem for me, too. I hate that it's easy to control the message pane in the message list, but not in the search results list. I use searches constantly.
