my pc crashed and i do not have the sync key now. how do i recover the data in sync? all i can find is ways to start over and that is simply worthless..

Sorry, without your Sync Key your data is useless and can't be recovered. That "key" is the encryption / decryption key for your data, and no one except you ever see that key.
Sync is intended to synchronize Firefox data between multiple devices, not as a backup medium for only one device
