Bug Infection

I have picked up some bug(s) on my Firefox that I cannot figure out how to get rid of. With a Firefox ID I have warnings of 3 Trojan Virus detected, Virus detected, hard drive infected, secure data notice and system alert. I also got a warning that my McAfee protection had expired which is very strange. Since switching over in 2010 from Windows to Linux I have never had protection of any kind and unlike Windows have never had a single problem. In addition when I was using Windows the protection that I had was never McAfee. I suspect that these warnings are not from Firefox given the misprints, spelling errors and the poor English. It is likely phishing from some third world country. How do I get rid of this obvious garbage permanently? Many thanks! Kris

Are these small popups on bottom right corner of Firefox windows? if so then these may just be web push notifications from sites you have allowed to send you notifications. Instead of useful information some may send you junk, spam, fake virus/trojan alerts etc. You can revoke these sites from sending you notifications as shown in second KB link below.

Thank you very much James for your help. I keyed your detailed suggestions and it all worked out perfectly. It was actually pretty easy to do. I am now bug free. It was comforting to me to see that two and a half pages of users had this same bug problem. It makes me feel less dumb. I am 78 years old and did not grow up with computers so that all of it is pretty much Klingon to me. I can order a beer and get directions to a washroom in Klingon but that is it. My first laptop was made of wood and bugs were a huge problem – termites. Have a great day!
