Thunderbird only downloads about 100 of my 1000s of emails

I've installed Thunderbird on a new laptop after the old one died. I need to download all the emails on the server, but Thunderbird only snags about 100 of them. Under Account Settings > Synchronization & Storage > Disk Space, "Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age" is selected.

WHo is the mail provider?

The IMAP and STMP settings are correct. Thunderbird seems to work correctly except that it doesn't download all of my messages.

Guessing what the problem is, as you do not provider the information requested. If it is google and a POP mail account you probably need to go here and change how google offers old mail that have been previously downloaded or is before the date specified in the settings.
