Firefox updates on systems without PopCnt and SSE4.2 until when?

Apparently Windows 11 won't upgrade from v23H2 to 24H2 because the very nice cpu (and system) don't support SSE4.2 or PopCnt instructions. While v23H2 won't get updates after November of 2025, I tend to use operating systems WAY beyond no more updates without problems, and only upgrade when browsers no longer update and support some websites, notably banking and credit card sites, for example.

Any way to get at least a rough idea of when/how long Firefox will continue to update on Windows 11 23H2 so I can plan ahead? Usually it's a year or 2 or more after Microsoft stops updating the OS.

Thanks.

Considering that Mozilla plans to try and support Windows 10 for several years after Microsoft drops support then Windows 11 should still get supported, even if a older edition.

Hi,

Don't worry! Firefox updates on Windows are generally independent of Microsoft’s OS support, so it’s possible to continue getting Firefox updates even after Microsoft stops servicing a specific Windows version.

Here’s what you should know:

Mozilla officially supports Firefox on Windows 11, 10, and the latest ESR versions.

There isn’t a strict cutoff tied to Windows updates, but Firefox occasionally updates system requirements for newer features or security.

As long as you are using a modern, supported Windows version like Windows 11 23H2 or newer, Firefox will continue to receive the latest feature and security updates as soon as they are released.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, yes, that's been my experience, I finally had to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 WAY, WAY, WAY after it wasn't supported by MS because Firefox wouldn't update any more...  :)

BTW, Windows 11 Microsoft support/updates end this year, November of 2025 so it won't be "supported much longer.

Guess we'll see what happens, just was hoping for some sort of schedule, or even past timeline for when updates stopped for various Windows OSs.

Hi,

Yes I'm sorry I don't have a schedule to make sure you know ahead but from what I know, Firefox extended support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 until March 2026, well after Microsoft had already dropped support. So this may happen that Firefox will likely support Windows 11 23H2 for some time after November 2025.
