No Message in Folders with Sub-folders

I have several folders set up in my icloud email account. All of them transferred over to Thunderbird when I set it up.

The Problem: Most folder that have sub-folders shows NO MESSAGES. I have 24 folders set up besides the default folders. 5 have sub-folders. Only 2 of the folders with sub-folders show messages. I just noticed that the name of all the folders without messages are italicized. In my account or when using Apple's imail, the messages show up, but not in Thunderbird.

What's wrong?
