Auto Update Crashes

Is there a way to turn off auto update? We have four computers at home using the Thunderbird mail program. The auto updates beginning in January 2020 have removed the existing icons from all of our computers. When we attempt to run the program from the Program list, it acts as if I've never used Thunderbird and wants me to create email accounts. I've used Windows system recovery to go back before the update was installed. Each time Thunderbird re-installs this update and each time it removes my access to my existing mail boxes. Is there I way to turn off auto-update or do I need to find a different email program?

how about just fixing the problem the update causes. See https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2019/09/i-lost-my-profilemail-on-update-to.html

I think I have it all covered there.

Thanks for your help. If this doesn’t work I’ll probably just switch to a different email client.
