Thanks.

Have removed DC and installed 11 as used on 'old' machine. (Only installed DC because of setting up a new laptop and its what Adobe now offers first when you go to the website.)

Lo and behold, 11 'works' without aggravation.

Thanks again.

Do you mean Adobe Acrobat/Reader stand-alone application or the Adobe Acrobat plugin in a Firefox tab?

If you open a PDF directly into the stand-alone application, use "Save As" to save it to a new location, otherwise it stays in the Windows Temp folder which is a precarious location.

If you open a PDF in the plugin in a Firefox tab, check the plugin's toolbar for its own Save button (don't use Firefox's Save Page As in this case).

Also, any chance you could post a screenshot of what you mean by "4squares logo"? Is that the Windows logo?

Thanks for comments. I assume that I mean the stand alone version; Firefox preferences - applications is set to 'use adobe acrobat reader DC' (default)'. 'Save' is not available only 'save as', but at this point the dialogue box opens with the intermittently flashing Windows logo, and thats how it stays.

I don't use Reader DC, I use XI (11), so I am not familiar with its peculiarities.

The file displays normally in Reader but can't be saved to another location?

To copy the file to a new location manually, does this still work:

  • Open the Document Properties dialog for the PDF you are viewing using File menu > Properties or right-click the document > Document Properties
  • Click the Description tab
  • Click the path shown next to Location to launch that folder in Windows Explorer with the PDF selected
  • right-click > Copy the PDF, then navigate over to the desired new location and right-click > Paste on a blank area of that file list
  • Close Windows Explorer (if desired)
  • Close the Document Properties dialog

As for why Save As doesn't work, I don't know. I think it's an internal problem of your Adobe software, and not a Firefox issue.
