For some reason or other, the Windows 10 taskbar isn't displayed on top of the Firefox browser windows/pages. It stays on top in Google Chrome and in Internet Explorer. Why won't it stay on top in Firefox? I need to be able to see the time and date while browsing. Is there a fix to this? Please inform me of how to remedy this situation ASAP, or I will have to use Google Chrome (but I really don't want to!).

If Firefox is in full screen view, that will block the Taskbar. You can switch from fullscreen to normal view using either:

  • F11
  • slide the mouse pointer to the top of the screen, right-click a blank area of the tab bar, then Exit full screen

If that's not it, sometimes the file that stores window dimensions becomes corrupted with nonsense values. Since the file is difficult to edit, you can rename it and have Firefox return to default window sizes.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.

Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?

This process may turn off some bars you like to display. To turn them back on, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

To turn on the Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar, or other bars, click it on the list.
