Thunderbird (24.5) is not responding ALL THE TIME - HELPPPPP!

Hi, I have Thunderbird 24.5 and for some reason it is NOT RESPONDING all the time and I cannot write emails or do anything - as it then crashes and when I restart it the same things happens again. Can anyone help me fix this problem please? thanks Michael Lourie I am linked with a gmail account and also a local account (2 altogether) - cheers
