can I merge a xp and a ubuntu .json file into a new, updated file?
I have 2 computers, w/ xp on 1 and ubuntu on the other. the bookmarks are no longer similar. Can create an updated file containing the most recent .json files of the parents? Both firefoxes are 3.6.13.

Sorry, I don't know of a way to merge 2 JSON bookmarks files.
Have you considered using Firefox Sync to synchronize your bookmarks on those 2 PC's?

Another way is to export your bookmarks from each PC in HTML format and then import those HTML files into the other PC. HTML will append existing bookmarks in Firefox (you'll end up with duplicates), whereas restoring a JSON will replace all the bookmarks with those in the JSON backup
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Export HTML... - to a USB stick
then
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... - from file on that USB stick
Thanks for the quick response. I looked at the .json and the html file for each pc and concluded it was a lot of work that may not be successful; I am not very computer literate, a lot of extra thumb possibilities and 70 yr old eyes. I am considering a different approach if it is possible.
Q: can I put ff on a flash drive and have one copy for where ever I'm at.with ff? I would think this would be possible with one type of OS, but is it possible with xp and with ubuntu? thanks again for your help.
