login woes now login blocks now firefox 10/2026 update does not allow permanent site permissions
Login woes, due to having only access to internet via cell signal, have now become outright login blocks, now that the firefox 10/2026 update does not allow for permanent site permissions setting. As a very senior elder, I do need the larger computer screen to see what I am doing online, which is a minefield these days. I get my internet from Xfinity monthly signal data passes, to a platform build far above my cabin where I found the signal with the FCC signal app. I do not have the $20,000 to extend cable, plus the electric power is out half the year anyway, when you pay huge fees for for cable, but but the cable is dead also.
I welcome any suggestion on how to stay connected without an IP address of a personal modem, using SIM dongles or signal passes.
Measures I have had to take in 2026: I had to stop shutting down my computer, so W11 updates don't log me out of Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. in a way I cannot get back in without a week or more of hasseling with support with each media mogul to let me log back on with my remembered by FF email and password. Google is the worst, because to receive G verification, you have to be still logged in to Google to receive G verification, where as MS at least allows me to use Tuta.com. But phone verification is the worst. I can take 24hrs to arrive, if it does at all.
Now that Firefox has made it impossible to make Site Permission stick, I will stop updating FF too. Because some data needs to stick around to be able to log in. I can't even upload my phone snapshots to my computer without the IP ID.
Again, I welcome all constructive advice.

Could you explain this in more detail:

Now that Firefox has made it impossible to make Site Permission stick, ...
What kind of Site Permission does not stick? Is the problem related to certificates (invalid security certificates), or cookies, or location, or some other permission/exception?
When I check your previous question, it sounds like it could be a problem with cookies:

Firefox deletes logins despite site settings, and cannot pass verification, so I can now no longer succeed to verificarion of login with Google, Facebook, etc.
I don't have Firefox 155 handy to check the settings, but one possible reason for this problem is having Firefox set to clear cookies (part of clearing history) when it closes. Are you using that feature? I would try turning that off completely; just keep everything. See whether that resolves the issue.
Later, when your connectivity is easier, you can try to customize that feature to behave better. But since experimenting would be very arduous for you right now, I think you should just keep the data and do occasional manuals clean-ups if needed.
Thank you for replying!!! I have already set Firefox to not delete cookies. The change made with recent updates has been that, for example, Google Voice, (which I use a lot since the days of G. Hang Out, for stuff like SIM activation support,) I learned early on to Allow Sound, Notification, Cookies, Popups, and Persistent Data, via the link before the URL, and jumping through the hoops to get the right window. Since the last update, I have to redo this for every site, every time that a window was closed, and some sites auto- time out . So I get locked out. By Google, and my email.... Plus login verification for all major sites are a series of You Have To Be Logged In To Receive Your Verification, or to get their Help... On Windows 11 at least I have the option to sleep, not shut down windows, to keep ever- limiting updates at bay, and so avoid losing the logins of email etc. But on Android, I get miserably logged out on everything that asks for verification. Making phones a pain to use.
I am a local elder, in my 70's, so I try hard to stay connected. Below, if you are interested, is why this is so important to us.
Welcome to life on the Dark Side Of The Digital Divide: all of the rugged rural USA away from interstate freeways and cities. Life is easier on the Prairie Reservations, because there we still have Pay Phones, but most others are no longer served, especially my rugged mountain areas. All landlines were shut down a few years ago. This makes fighting fires, getting injured to clinics, etc. a challenge, despite that I also have MURS, shortwave, and CB radios.
So I appreciate all suggestions on keeping Firefox user- friendly, and not log us out of everything.
I can think of two reasons for settings to disappear when Firefox closes:
(1) Your browsing windows are private windows.
(2) Firefox is set to flush permissions when it closes. To check on that:
Settings > Privacy and security > History
If this is set to Customize, click "Choose what you want Firefox to remember" to view the detailed settings.
If the box is checked for "Clear history when Firefox closes", click the Settings button to review what is getting cleared.
If the box is checked here for Site Settings, un-check the box. This option will flush your custom site permissions.
