Thunderbird email keeps crashing

After I open my Thunderbird email and use it for 15 to 20 minutes it freezes. I need to close it and I get a message Thunderbird is not responding. I then need to close the program using Microsoft to close the program.

If a program crashes like that, there is a good chance that the program has left corrupted memory or invisible processes still running. That's why it's good practice to reboot the computer. So please do that if you haven't already.

Try disabling Thunderbird's "Use hardware acceleration when available" feature. It's intended to enhance performance but can conflict with some computer's display drivers. I find it doesn't really make much performance difference. That setting can be found at <Settings | General> - scroll all the way to the bottom, past "Indexing" and unselect the acceleration option. Then restart Thunderbird.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work.

What version of Thunderbird?

What is your operating system?

What is your Anti-Virus, if any?

Do you use a VPN?

Did you install Thunderbird using an installer downloaded from thunderbird.net or from the Microsoft Store?

Was it working before and this just started? Does it seem to coincide with a Thunderbird or Windows update? Any other factor seem to trigger the freeze?

Try restarting Thunderbird in Troubleshooting Mode (found in the Help menu.) Among other things, this will temporarily disable all add-ons, in case one is misbehaving. Does it still freeze?
