Last week Thunderbird did an automatic update, this is not unusual BUT since then every time I try to start Thunderbird A message comes up

"Your computer needs to be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Thunderbird. Do you want to reboot now? Yes No"

No mater how many times I allow the computer to restart Thunderbird never opens.

I like Thunderbird I is my preferred email reader and writer.

Hi. I have over 20,000 messages in my Inbox. I've been sometimes having trouble moving messages into folders, so I thought it would be a good idea to reduce the number of messages in my Inbox. But I can't delete or move messages in the Inbox. When I select messages and enter command to move them to a folder, or ask to delete them, nothing happens. I am a Thunderbird supporter, and I love this program. Thanks for your work! Any advice appreciated. Connie

Thunderbird has worked fine for me for years on my Windows 10 Pro machine. The computer works perfectly otherwise--and has a large amount of RAM. But a few weeks ago, Thunderbird started freezing (stops responding) at some point while I'm writing a message.

What happens is that I'll start to write an e-mail message in Thunderbird, and at some random point (from a few seconds to a few minutes) it will stop adding what I'm typing, and soon the text that it was showing grays out. It will then say Thunderbird has stopped responding, and I have no other choice than to close Thunderbird. I have no way of saving or recovering the message I had been typing--very frustrating!

As a partial work-around, I found that if I click on "Save" every time I add a little more to the message I'm trying to write, then at least when I restart Thunderbird I can go to Drafts and recover the message (as it was the last time I clicked "Save").

Thunderbird still works fine for all other functions (reading received messages, etc.). It only has the stopping responding problem randomly when I'm trying to write a message. It can happen while I'm typing--or during a pause between writing sentences. And the timing of the problem is very random and variable (from almost immediate to a few minutes). I tried running Thunderbird in Safe mode, but the problem was the same...

I always keep up with Thunderbird updates. Currently, I'm using version 140.1.1esr.

Can you give me any help with a solution? This problem is maddening!

Thank you,

I've read everything apropos here, tried everything, and I'm lost--and totally screwed--if I can't get into my old Thunderbird. Spectrum, computer died, nobody competent here to get past "Registry Error," I guess, but I need all the data, contacts, calendar, etc., in the T'bird I've relied on for MANY years. PLEASE help. I tried to get a screen grab: It didn't work.

This is the second time I've appealed for help.

I received an email, Thunderbird on my Windows 11 PC, that was heavily covered by an unknown solid black design. Most of the text was covered over. I was unable to remove the blockage. When I opened the same email on both my iPhone and my Yahoo mail account, there was no problem - no blockage. It looked somewhat like a large black mask laid over the text.

Context: I have set Thunderbird (version 128.13.0esr) to user Mail Dir. I am using a RHEL10 based distro (Almalinux10). Everything is working fine with received email. I need to manually process the received mail folder with an automation utility I had written in the past that was based on a Maildir folder structure.

I read through the article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/maildir-thunderbird - and noticed that it was around 6 years old and could not find any updated articles re. the current status of Maildir and Thunderbird.

My question(s): I noticed that the Thunderbird Maildir structure under the email profile does not seem to have a folder named 'new', it only has 'cur' and 'tmp'. This does kind of make sense, as from what I understand, the 'new' folder is intended for messages that have been delivered, but not seen by any email applications. I am guessing Thunderbird has the email received in its user inbox, so it belongs in the 'cur' directory as it has been 'seen' by Thunderbird?

I was just wanting to confirm that it is that case that all email received by Thunderbird using a Maildir directory structure will always appear in the 'cur' folder. For reference, in my previous setup, fetchmail was retrieving email from a remote email server and as a result all email received appeared in the 'new' directory. My automation application processed all email in the the 'new' folder and archived them once processed.

Thank you.

However, when using Thunderbird on Ubuntu, I get:

All services are running, and the firewall is not blocking connections, but I cannot figure out why Thunderbird cannot connect.

Thunderbird Address Book - Only Syncing with Server in One-Direction (Syncs To Server)

Hello, After recently I installed ThunderBird after installing a clean installation of Windows 10.

I have managed to successfully connect ThunderBird to my Email Server, and its associated CalDav and CardDav server.

However when I try to sync the ThunderBird Address Book with the server, it only uploads information (new address book entries, edits, deletions). Changes made on the server do not get reflected in ThunderBird.

This includes the situation where the address booked entry is originally made in ThunderBird, uploaded to the Server, and then edited on the server (e.g. added extra character to the name field).

I can sync emails and calenders between ThunderBird and the Server without problem.

I have tried deleting the abook.sqlite files in my ThunderBird Profile, but this has not had any impact.

For avoidance of doubt, I am using the "Syncronise" menu option in ThunderBird rather waiting for the default automated 'every 30 minutes' setting.

Question: Can anyone advise how to resolve this one-way synconisation. I would like ThunderBird Address Book to update/reflect changes made on the server
