I tried to follow the troubleshooting guide. Technical information says issuer cetificate is unknown.

Error code sec_error_unknown_issuer

I was told to search my profile and delete certdb. This is not straightforward but I thought I had managed it. Sadly, on reopening firefox the problem remains. I also reset firefox without improving the problem. Any help will be very much appreciated Clive.

hello, can you attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):

  • which issuer information does the certificate contain?

thank you!

Thanks Philipp The issuer information says that the issuer certificat is unknown and gives the error code as sec_error_unknown_issuer

On that page there is no facility to add an exception.

One further bit of information, the problem only occurs with a google search. Other search engines work OK. Clive

because it sounds quite suspicious, i'd recommend running a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner.

Hi cmtonks, if the last section of the page is missing, that may indicate that it is within a frame.

When a page is framed, its URL is not visible, so Firefox doesn't let you add an exception unless you load the framed document in a new tab. Right-click > This Frame > Open Frame in a New Tab.

Which doesn't mean I recommend adding an exception, but this should allow you to review the stated issuer of the certificate (which Firefox does not trust).
