Why is the basic firefox menu is different on my tower and laptop? Even though they are both the same verson and both on Windows 8.
I'm talking about the desktop version of Firefox 23.0.1 on both the tower and the laptop, both running Windows 8 in desktop mode.
I'm talking specifically the menu option for entering Private Browsing doesn't show up under the Firefox Menu on the laptop, but I can go to the submenu on the laptop to the "New Tab" and start Private Browsing that way. However, on my desktop it shows up under the main menu and not under the submenu "New Tab".
The reason I ask is because I have to write instructions with pictures for someone who follows step-by-step instructions to eventually learn. However, if there is a misstep in this process because it's not universally the same on every computer, it throws everything into a complete chaos state where I cannot create a reliable instruction document.

Please verify that both machines are running Firefox 23.0.1, and then try safe mode. Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
This is Firefox's default state, if things are the same in Safe Mode on both computers (and they should be if you have the same version) then there is an extension or customization on one of your machines that is making this different.
If you are in Private Browsing mode then all window and tabs that you open are by default private tabs.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

I am also noticing differences. The Firefox version is the same (26), and I am running W7 on the desktop and 8 on the laptop. I have run something to synchronyze the add-ons, favourites, etc., I think it's a feature of the browser, and it worked, however on the laptop, I can't make or access tab groups. The tab groups button doesn't appear, and while on the desktop if I open a tab session in the same window a new group is created in that window on the laptop it goes on the same, and only, group. Some add-ons work slightly differently, for example on the desktop I can open the start page on the same tab I am on by pressing the specific add-on button, but on the laptop it opens on a new tab, even though I selected the option to not do it. Another one: to get a list of the tabs, on the laptop I have to press the right mouse button on top of the list tabs icon, instead of the left one. And something which I find very strange, I can't see page comments (on news, articles, etc) on the laptop, at least on a couple of different, unrelated articles it has been like that, regardless of what accounts I am logged in or not (even not logged, it should be possible to see the comments, but on the laptop they simply don't appear anywhere).

Hi DGuerra, based on a past thread, the missing comments may be related to using avast! and its browser add-on(s).
Firefox is so easy to customize that it's not really surprising to find differences between two systems. These can relate to the menu choices (orange Firefox button or classic menu bar), toolbar layouts, and of course, add-ons.
If you have a preference for one setup versus another, hopefully these articles can equalize some of those layout issues:
- Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar
- Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
You can compare extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Perhaps you can get the two side-by-side to make it easier, or to extract a text list, you can use the troubleshooting information page. Either:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
The button in the upper left corner "Copy text to clipboard" will grab the configuration information from entire page.
