There is a little rectangle that follows my cursor around when I am in the Firefox 3.6.8 browser, in Windows 7. This does not happen with my Win XP computers, or in Win 7 under any other app, such as IE 6 or 8, or GoogleChrome, or any word processor; only FF. The little box is nervous, jumps around under the cursor like it is attached by a short bungee cord; very distracting.

The screen-grab is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/21112193@N08/4831581716/ The box (rectangle) is below center, under the word "Windows". The cursor at that time was an I-beam centered on the line containing the word "Windows" -was not captured by PrtScrn. When the cursor is an arrowhead, or something other than the I-Beam, the box is closer to the cursor symbol.

Issues with tooltips not working properly have been reported to be caused by the Google Toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
You can check if there is an update available that fixes that issue.

You can try to uninstall and reinstall the latest Google Toolbar.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
