Mozilla Firefox 3.6.6 won't play Adobe Flash 10.1 media, video. Given this has been a continual problem (for years) between Mozilla and Adobe, what is the current solution for users to enable Flash 10.1 to operate within Firefox (it works well in IE and
Adobe Flash 10.1 won't load media when using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.6. There are no errors. Both IE and Opera operate well with Flash 10.1. I contacted Mozilla chat support, but to no avail (person disconnected session after I mentioned that Flash 10.1 works well with my other browsers). Also, I've noticed Mozilla and Adobe have had similar problems after each upgrade of either Firefox or Flash (the internet has a long track record of user complaints going back to 2007 and later).
The key point is Mozilla bears the effects of the problems because users transition to other browsers (e.g., I now have configured my Opera browser as my primary browser, IE is second, and Firefox is on hold until Mozilla resolves Flash 10.1 compatibility issues).

In past two weeks, when Firefox no longer recognized an older version of Adobe Flash and requested I upgrade to 10.1.

Flash media plays fine in Firefox; so the question is why hasn't it been working for you. Sometimes these issues are caused by add-ons that block some web content. We'll need some more info about your Firefox setup. Go to Help > Troubleshooting Information, then click Copy all to Clipboard. Open a reply to this post, and go to Edit > Paste to paste the info from your Troubleshooting Information page. And an example page, where you are experiencing the issue.
Since my initial post, I've narrowed the problem.
Flash plays fine on some sites (e.g., cnn, abc, youtube). It doesn't play on any Yahoo or Espn sites (if I disengage adblock, the advertisements will play, but not the respective content media).
Below are the settings. At bottom of page are two examples of problem pages/sites.

I have very similar experience. Flas-based videos work ok from some sites eg. any videos on www.guardian.co.uk but not others, eg. anywhere on the BBC website www.bbc.co.uk. I believe that I acquired this problem when I updated Flash to version 10.1, with I think Firefox 3.6.6 installed. However, it now continues even if I revert to Firefox 3.6.4 or try to vsn 4 beta.
I have tried a variet of sequences of uninstalling and reinstalling Flash and Firefox but nothing changes.
As with the original post, Opera 10.60 seems to work fine. IE8 seems to fail to recognize that Flash is even installed as it keeps asking me to reinstall.......

No further response from the one above by Mozilla/firefox insisting there is no problem with firefox playing adobe flash 10.1. So I guess we users are wrong.
For me, videos through yahoo, and various other sites don't play flash (daily show, etc.) using firefox 3.6.6
My personal solution has been to use another browser until firefox can resolve (in my case, I'm now using opera - but others work too).
No... I'm using Safari until it's fixed. Seems odd that Firefox won't address the issue... or maybe they are ...not sure....
I have the same problem ever since updating to Firefox 3.6.6. Some videos on certain sites like hulu, comedy central, MTV and ESPN wont play, but play fine in IE8 or Crome. Videos on youtube and vimeo play fine on Firefox. ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated Mozilla...

Okay, so now that that is out of the way, let's see if we can figure out what is causing the problem for you. The network.http.sendRefererHeader preference looks suspicious, but let's try safe mode first. If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? I have the same problem and am running Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10.1. Hulu advertisements play, but the videos will not. Works fine in IE.
This is not a permanent solution. However, I found my problems were resolved by reverting back to Firefox 3.6.3. The key here is the different way in which Flash is handled. 3.6.4 and subsequent use the separate plugin-container.exe process to handle Flash, so I presume the problem is the way that this interacts with Flash 10.1
This is going to need someone much brainier than me to sort out.
Seems to work fine with FF 4.0 beta too.
Switching to an earlier version is not ideal of course, because each update contains security fixes. Firefox 4 Betas are more secure. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/
I've tried the version 4 beta but it has exactly the same issue - Flash videos fail to play from certain websites - such as bbc.co.uk in my case. The vsn 4 beta also seems to use plugin-container.exe so I assume that this MUST be the source of the problem. I can end plugin-container.exe from the Task Manager and Firefox then runs ok but showing that the Flash plugin has crashed.
It seems I can either have a secure browser or one that works.....
I can't play flash videos anymore too...

now... it doesn't work at all...

Flash 10.1 simply quits Firefox 3.6.3 as soon as I try to open a page that needs Flash to work. (Mac SnowLeopard 10.6.4).
I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process: 0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html ( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins. Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!

Sorry running OSX 10.4.11 on a PPC G4, if that means anything. I was having the same problems in Safari and Opera. After the above operation it seems to work in all three.
thanks for the tips Nadine A. However, didn't work for me, Firefox still bombs at the thought of using Flash 10.1. Upgraded to 3.6.6 and still the same thing!
