Hello,

A few days ago Thunderbird started denying access to my Yahoo mail account. After many attempts to sort this out I decided to remove the account and add it back again, but to no avail. I also changed my Yahoo password and activated the so called 2 step authentication, but nothing works.

I added the same Yahoo account to Windows Outlook desktop app, without any issues, just signing in with my password.

I also installed Betterbird, the Thunderbird equivalent, but could not add the Yahoo account.

I have been using Thunderbir for many years and would hate to have it uninstalled. I use it for Gmail and Outook accounts as well and without any problems.

I would be gratefull if you could help me out with this problem.

My Yahoo e-mail address is [edited from public] @yahoo.com

Thank you!

Yahoo uses oAuth2 Authentication that requires Cookies to be enabled for setup. No cookies no setup it is that simple.

One of the results of oAuth authentication is that your password is simply not used to access your account, a token issued by the server replaces it. The only time you use your password is when you are walked through the initial setup and asked to allow Thunderbird access to Yahoo mail. At that time you are on a webpage served by Yahoo. Thunderbird never actually knows your password, only the r5esultant token that comes back from the server.

I would have liked to have helped you fix your account, but you deleted it and opened a whole new problem because now there are no error messages to work with, just a broken setup.
