Deleted places.sqlite and Firefox will not re-install
I had no browsing history, and was advised to delete or rename the places.sqlite fine. I did so, deleted the Firefox.app file (through trash) then re-downloaded Firefox. When I tried to open it it said it could not fine the deleted places. file. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear that.
Firs,t try this - Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message
Then, this one- Locked or damaged places.sqlite
You should only remove/rename one file in the profile folder named places.sqlite (and other possible places.sqlite files) and not a whole folder in case you did this.
If you have this folder still in the Trash or have a Time Machine backup of the profile folder then you can restore this folder.
You can also check for permission issues and do some maintenance and cleanup with OnyX.
Did not work. I deleted the Firefox app, then replaced it with an earlier (date) Firefox.app from Time machine. It worked, but Firefox repeatedly crashes.
Hello,
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.
To Refresh Firefox:
- Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
- Click the menu button
, click help
and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
- If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
- Click the menu button
- At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
- Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
- Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
