For the past 4 days, Firefox has been crashing randomly 6-7 times a day. I have tried using safe mode and I refreshed Firefox. I ran virus scans. I have filed numerous crash reports to Firefox. It is still happening. I don't know what else to do, and I don't know how to solve many technical computer issues on my own. Any ideas?

I came across a product for fixing computer issues called "Reimage". I was going to try it but then I got scared that it might not be safe. Has anyone heard of it? Would it work?

Signature:

  • Firefox 55.0.3 Crash Report [@ igd10umd32.dll | mozilla::layers::DataTextureSourceD3D11::Update ]

You can try to set this pref to false on the about:config page.

  • media.windows-media-foundation.allow-d3d11-dxva

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
    remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
    "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

That seems very involved/technical for me. I don't really understand a lot of that response. Sorry. I am afraid I'll make a mistake and really mess something up. Is there any way it can be diagnosed or fixed remotely? I'm just a 64 year old woman who doesn't know a lot about computers. It's almost midnight here, so I'll check back here tomorrow. Thanks!

I think I managed to do all of those things. It took me a long time to figure it out. But it is still crashing. What else can I do? Thank you.
